So after 12 busy weeks, and 20 days here at Tourism WA, my placement as well as my final semester at university are coming to an end.
Before I began my placement I felt unprepared for the 'real world' and quite daunted by it. Luckily I have had great mentors who have shown and taught me new things leaving me feeling better prepared for working in the public relations industry.
Over my time here i've written newsletters, media releases, fact sheets, dealt with media enquiries and collaborated media monitoring information. Im glad Curtin University decided to keep the practical element to our degree because I really think it brings together everything we have learnt over the three years.
So while my internship here concludes, I have been lucky enough to be offered a job in the campaign services department of Tourism WA. Im very grateful for this experience and for its ability to get 'my foot in the door' so to speak.
While this role is not in the public relations team, it also falls under the 'marketing' banner and requires lots of the basic skills I have learnt. I look forward to learning new skills and developing those I already have in this new role.
Wishing you all the best of luck for your future endeavours.
Vanessa :)
