Getting started

Hie everyone

Well i just started interning and i thought i should updated you all on what i have learnt so far. Here is the thing, i came to the internship thinking that what ever i have been taught in all my public relations modules was what i was going to be doing ultimately, such as applying concepts and aspects to the nature of the job. However i have come to realize that the working environment of public relations differs from what we are taught in class to a certain extent for instance every organisation has its own way of doing things more so on the procedures.

Working has proven to be hard especially with tasks having to be completed within a limited timespan and having to meeting deadlines, with that being said i m a learning so much on how Public relations works in turn this opens my eyes to the industry and enables me to gain experience on working with different clients. It has been a week and yet i have learnt so much that the lists is so infinite but the most important tasks are learnt included media monitoring, updating contact database and sponsorship for the clients .I a m looking forward to exploring and learning more on this field and i hope that i will be able to meet their expectations and bring something new to the table.

It is very true that consultancies operate with distinctive principles where the environment of one consultancy is a total different story from another consultancy. But they happen to be striving for a common goal of satisfying clients which brings us to the process they take in fulfilling this common goal and that process involves the Public Relations concepts.

For an example, at my attachment we sometimes plan events and the planning of this events need good strategies. We have to identify key publics and figure out what messages can be effectively delivered to them, how, where and when to deliver those messages. All of which is done without following every step of planning learned from the field of Public Relations.

Anyway, it is very important that you raised this point because it is very confusing especially at the very first time at work when trying to figure out what to do that relate to Public Relations. But after sometimes everything turns from being related to Public Relations to become the practice of Public Relations.
