Ministry of agriculture has started a program of community service day on the 17 of December 2010 which aims at extending the ministry’s social responsibility to the community.
The ministry’s community services day will on conducted on Fridays, and the employees are expected to always put on the ministry t-shirts.
The first community service day was on the 17 December 2010, just some days after I started my internship. The ministry employees picked litters in the ministry premises, around the ministry, rail station and finally at the bus rank.
Minister De Graaff and Assistant Minister Mr Oreeditse Molebatsi, senior officials of the ministry joined in the clean up of the areas.
During the launching of the community service day Minister of Agriculture, Mr Christiaan De Graaff said; “It is an opportunity for us to extend our social responsibility to the community we serve.”
For his part, Permanent Secretary, Dr Chimbombi described the day as marking an important milestone for the ministry, people and country and he urged the ministry’s employees to make the day a success by doing what they are supposed to do.
This year, the day will be used to do agriculture related works in different parts of Botswana, some of the proposed activities are, construction of kraals, weeding, fence maintenance, planting fruit tree and many others.

It is good to learn that Ministry of Agriculture is doing a community program that will benefit the whole community, and the board of the Ministry itself playing the role of keeping the selected areas clean create mutual relationship with the public.
And it is good that the Ministry do not only focus on one region, i can see that this year' plan is to improve the communities from almost all different region. It is really a good start.
again maybe it is important to mention that all the activities that will be carried out will be agriculture related so as to do what the ministry is preaching. leading the agricultural sector by example..
