Btv as a government owned television is run with taxpayers' money. The taxpayers have every right to know how Btv is using their taxes. It is through the media that the taxpayer will know. The allegations that newspapers are following come from the DBS director’s staff members, those are people who on a daily basis deal with production of programmes for the station. When too many employees complain about the way their organisation is run, it behoves other media outlets to investigate such allegations. The main concern of this issue rose after the director was interviewed by one of the local news papers in response to this and his response was that "these are not issues for discussion with newspapers”.many more allegations rose and other competing medias were on the case day and night.the director only got to address this issue with the staff after the media allegations have heated up.

Hi,
I think that people should know what is happening. It is a public corporation, so ethically they should be made aware of the different problems. Grapevine rumors and unhappy employees is not an uncommon issue in businesses.
Yet, maybe you should not rush into explanation. Acknowledging a problem is one thing, but making assumption about the problem is another one.
I think the first step is to acknowledge that there is a problem and state we are working towards a solution. A plan about about how the problem should be handle my need to be released afterwards.
Hope that's help, and good luck with your internship

thank you very much for that insightful view..and i definatly agree with you...like they say honesty is the best policy..internal communication is vital in this case, that is where we should build trust so that staff members can give the organisation all the support and as a result there will be more productivity in the work place...
thank you very much Sandrine!!
When business realities get more difficult, executives and managers tend to adopt a ditch mentality, developing strategy behind closed doors as employee anxiety mounts, trust declines and rumours fly.( Shawn Smith, J.D.2003) . Honesty in this situation is very vital at employees would prefer to hear the bad news from the management other than just as rumours .with that the management will gain respect and loyalty in terms of presentation responsible leadership skills and showing that the situation is under control.(employee relations chap 3 page 38)
An organisation with disorganized and unhappy employees is an organisation that is considered dead (an easy prey for the media). the main stakeholders in this case are the staff, media and the community. The director could have built employee relations by calling meetings and address the issue to build trust for it is built through the way a leader develops the culture of communication for internal and external stakeholders.
Media relations is also important because the media have the power to break or build an individual. The media themselves act as an agent who actively influences audience's impression and information consumption.
It was imature of a leader of an organisation to give such a comment to the media because he is the image of the organisation if he becomes negative the image of the organisation gets tarnished.
I think one issue here is the lack of internal communication. Staff should not have had to leak information or otherwise express their frustrations to the media, if there was a proper channel of discussion established within the organization.
If such a system is established within the organization, then the executives would be able to handle matters proactively, instead of reacting to it after everything is said and done. In this case, a lot of damage. This is a case where a lot of damage, both in terms of reputation and probably cost, at some point down the line, could have been avoided if simple Public Relations guidelines had been followed.
