Via Appia Networking WA welcoming me

Hi PR 360 students,

My name is Tess, I’m currently in my third year of Commerce majoring in Public Relations and Marketing. I am completing my PR placement at a wonderful company called Via Appia Networking WA.

The organisation…

Via Appia Networking WA is a dynamic business led by Rebecca Cole a young entrepreneur along with a professional and energetic team work at connecting businesses, entrepreneurs, and aspiring business people to create opportunities that would otherwise be inaccessible.

Via Appia Networking WA is based on the sometimes unsung value of professional networks based on strong, ongoing relationships. A well tended network can open up previously unavailable opportunities, improve business practices and it can be fun and rewarding. It also allows business people to connect with others in their industries and related industries and find people that they share professional interests with.

The four main services that the organisation provides are event management, social media marketing, networking events and managed services. The team is always busy so I am very glad to be involved with the company to assist in all the areas of my expertise.

My Placement…

I started my placement at the beginning of July and have been working there around one – two days a week and attending the events that I have helped to organise. Our most recent event was the media140 conference held at ECU earlier this month. media140 consisted of a two day conference of strategies, case studies, workshops and debate to help organisations grow their business.

Industry leaders from Europe and Australia, such as Michael Malone CEO of iinet, David Stewart partner of Wrays, Matt Hehman an account Executive at Facebook and many more gave insight to individuals showing how to harness social technologies for their organisation.

It was great to be involved with the conference it created hands on experience for myself. I was involved in areas such as marketing, Public Relations and social media so I got a taste of different aspects of what is involved within the organisation.

The next event that I am working on is the United States Ambassador to Australia event that Via Appia is holding on 9th of August. At the moment we are in the process of marketing to different corporate organisations and sending out invitations. The ambassador Jeffrey L. Bleich, will discuss how leaders can begin addressing tomorrow’s challenges now, and why visionary leadership is essential to global success. So I’m very much looking forward to attending the event. If anyone is interested in attending the event held at Parmelia Hilton from 12-2pm on 9 August, feel free to visit http://www.networkingwa.com.au for more details on how to purchase tickets.

Look forward to sharing more of my experiences soon!

Hi Tess, how are you? How did you end up going in PR corpoate last sem?

I was reading apart of your blog and realised that i'm attending the next event your helping to organise. The American Chamber of Commerce in Australia event at the Parmelia Hilton.

My internship at Rio Tinto has invited me to the breakfast with Deidre Willmott. Small world :) I might see you there, though my berakfast starts at 7.30am and your event isn't till 12 noon so I understand if not.

Hope all is well and your enjoying your placement!
