I salute you all

Last week i had a presentation to give to the United Way Board board on the progress and developments of the work I had been doing at the organisation. It was truly an amazing and encouraging moment to have some of Perth's busiest people taking time out to listen to me rant on about what I've been doing with my life. It was also encouraging to know that all the Time that i had spent at Curtin doing presentations had paid off as my delivery was cool, calm, and collected. As a result the managing director of HBF Rob Bransby has asked me to hand in my CV for him to send out to his contacts so hopefully it turns out to be something that could shape up my future career.

As this is my final post i would like to reflect on my work experience and how it complimented the education i have received thus far. From 201 right up to 393 my full arsenal was put to the test at United Way as i went from the basics of media releases right up to launching a campaign. One of the things they don't emphasise in class (perhaps because its really quite hard to do so) is the importance of having a "likable" character and great people skills. A great personality or at least a willingness to engage the environment your around creates so many opportunities for you .United Way had mentioned they weren't hiring at the end of all this but through just being warm and friendly with the people i work with doors were opened that i could not have imagined.

Knowing everything or being the most sort-after expert of something is a skill that comes over time. Humility takes you a long way and an ability to admit you need help takes real character and is greatly appreciated by your superiors. A student willing to listen and learn is way better than student who thinks that a few units at uni has made the the Ultimate PrO.

Lastly a clearly defined personal goal gives you a reason to walk into your workplace everyday and definitely comes out in the work you do. There is no greater substitute than the personal will to achieve. Its something you won't learn but its something you identify and work towards. Don't sell your self cheap and always aim high it projects itself in the way you communicate your work to you supervisors and gives them the confidence and assurance that you want to be there.

Have a great one guys good luck with your careers I salute you all!

That sound great, it would be fantastic if you could land yourself job!
Even if you don't you may have gained a very useful contact, which is always a good thing to have.
It sounds as though United Way has been a very rewarding experience and that you have gained a lot from completing your placement there.
Its great to be able to put into practice the things that we have learnt at university and see how they work in a real life situation.

Hope you have your report writing under control and best of luck securing that job!
