Reverse spin on professional prac! (Blog #1)

Dear Fellow Public Relations prac students,

While this series of blog entries are primarily focused on PR students in temporary practical placement, my focus is on my real life role in PR and Marketing.
I am currently the Marketing Manager for one Western Australia’s leading renewable energy firms, Renewablelogic, and have been in this role for the past three years.
Renewablelogic provide sustainable energy solutions such as; solar power, solar hot water, low
energy lighting, wind energy, water, energy and carbon management solutions to West Australian communities, schools, homes and businesses.

I really enjoy my role for a number of reasons. It is both rewarding and challenging. No
two tasks are the same. I have a passion for the products and company I promote in my work.
Last but not least of all I enjoy my job because sustainability is of importance to us all.
However, besides working for a super cool renewable energy company, I also enjoy volunteering and freelancing for relevant and none relevant companies in my spare time.
My job description may read as:
· Research, develop, and
implement Public relations campaigns.
· Develop and implement
communication strategies for Renewablelogic, forward the advice to management
on issues and strategies.
· Keep an eye on public
opinion about or particular related issues in the media.
· Present arguments on behalf
of Renewablelogic to government, other organisations and special interest
groups.
· Respond to enquiries from
the public, media and other organizations.
· Arrange interviews, prepare
and distribute news releases and make statements to the media .
· Write, edit and arrange
production of newsletters, in-house magazines, pamphlets and brochures,
website, blogs, forums etc
· Oversee production of visual
(film or video), audio and electronic material, including managing websites and
advertisements.
· Organize special events such
as open days, visits, exhibitions and functions
· Conduct internal
communication
· Manage Renewablelogic response
to important issues and in times of crisis.

Though, for the record, the the majority of my time is spent updating the website, copy
writing, responding to the media or organising trade shows!
Until my next entry - best of luck to you all with your prac.
Signing off on my first blog entry,
D. Cornish
