KAB Representative at the Perth 2011 Sailing Championships

Hey guys,

Just an update on my internship with the Keep Australia Beautiful Council Western Australia (KAB). I volunteered to be a KAB representative at the Perth 2011 Sailing Championships and it proved to be an amazing experience!

The KAB had the opportunity to occupy one of the booths for the Perth 2011 Sailing Championships alongside with the event information booth, booths representing different participating countries as well as food and beverage booths. My colleague Maureen and I started our shift from 12pm at the Marine Parade, Fremantle on a Saturday where we set up the KAB booth with KAB flags, brochures, flyers, posters and other informative materials.

Throughout the day, our tasks were to inform the public about what the KAB does, to encourage the public to stop littering and to be involved in clean ups as well as other activities organised by the council. We also gave out car stickers and other freebies to the public. We thought that Fremantle would be crowded with people due to the sailing championships, but to our disappointment, the crowd was not as big as expected at the Marine Parade. Nevertheless, we managed to attract interest from some members of the public about the council's activities and several of them even promised to be litter reporters. It was worth it because we managed to achieve our goal of raising awareness among the public in becoming a more sustainable community.

For me, it was a good experience because I was a representative for the KAB, and I had the responsibility to inform the public about the KAB, and to encourage the public to be part of our programs. I had fun talking to people from all walks of life about the KAB programs, and it was touching to see children and teenagers genuinely concerned about the environment as well. Concerned with the environment myself, it was a warm feeling knowing that there are many others out there as well.

Here are some photos from the event, enjoy!

Remember guys, "Take a step, get involved and lets all Keep Australia Beautiful!"

Till then, enjoy your internships and stay tuned for more!
