CORPORATE WORLD ISN'T BAD AT ALL.

Name: Jacqueline Monei
Campus: LUCT

Hi All
I would like to highlight that my internship with the prestigious Ministry of Minerals Energy and Water Resources had been a roller coaster experience that opened my eyes to the way the corporate world operates and its expectations. This internship was like a mid wife that delivered me into the hands of the corporate world. For the first time, I got to experience the corporate world of public relations first hand and learnt how patience and keeping good media relations is a virtue.
As I was working with the gigantic Ministry of Botswana and I was based at the Ministry’s Headquarters which was providing leadership and policy direction to the departments and parastatals. My first week at Ministry of Minerals Energy and Water Resources I had to attend a meeting in which the Ministry and Public Relation officers and directors from different departments of the Ministry were planning a conference and I was part of the steering committee for the upcoming conference.
We were left with only a month for the conference to be held and were working under pressure and this conference was a bit hectic because it involved the President of the country and as we all know that where the president is involved it means lot had to be done. My supervisor was the steering wheel for this upcoming conference and that meant we had a lot to do as the headquarters PR practioners.
The conference was under the name Coal Roadmap Pitso which was held on 31st January 2012. At the meeting the steering committee had to come up with the plan for the Coal Roadmap Pitso. The Pitso was mainly to provide a clear and a transparent view of the Government intentions for the development of coal resources thereby giving investors more confidence around their long term strategy and implementation plans. This Pitso attracted stakeholders from both government and private sector.
In this 1st week of the meeting the steering team had to come up with the Theme for the Coal Roadmap Pitso, they had to agree on the venue to hold this conference, twho will e giving the speeches, which was the President of Botswana and the Minister of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources. They had to decide who to invite to the conference, who will be speakers, or the presenters, the team had to come up with the program for the main day and the conference material (Publications, promotional packages) so forth and so forth. As the steering team we allocated tasks among ourselves so that the next meeting we show the progress as we were meeting 3 times a week.

Till next time
xoxo :)

i know very well now that familiarizing your self with what is done in public relations left you busy at most times. Its really good dat you even had to work with big names in the country during your conventional meetings such as the one that involved different members of the parliament and the media for the opening of the Morupule mine. Great job. Good Luck

as people world wide,i highly believe power is one of the most important aspects in life, and for you to have experienced the need of morupole power station in Botswana i say to you..that knowledge should be a virtue to you.

and again minerals in this global nation are the main resources and need i say backbones to the respective countries as they are the major income sources to the nation.

thus my question is i terms of media, do you think our government promotes its self adequately, and if public relations where you were based made learn more..?

props up to you..
