OBSERVATION

TEAMWORK

During the time that I did my internship with UPM I noticed that they had the spirit of teamwork. The colleagues worked closely with each other and they had good communication skills with one another. This did benefit the office as tasks where done on time and Members base their success on trust and encourage all members to express their opinions, varying views, and questions

PUNCTUALITY

Punctuality is all about self discipline and reliability. The workers at UPM were always punctual to work, they did their time fairly and they only took breaks when it was time to. When it get to getting their tasks done, they did that too and meting the deadlines. This is a good thing as it contributes to the spirit of team work and the colleagues are able to trust each other. When there were meetings, the colleagues will set up the meeting room at least an hour before the meeting to avoid being rushed and all the papers works necessary will also be done that time. As an intern this motivated me because now I know the importance of punctuality and I also did my tasks in time and submitted them in time.

COMMUNICATION

Communication is a vital tool in the organization. It helps the colleagues to work closely together and to understand each other better. During the time I was doing my internship at UPM I had a bit of a difficulty when it got to the communication part. As I already explained at the beginning, UPM is a government school and they use bahasa malayu in almost everything they do. The workers also used the language around the office and most of the papers works. I had a problem communicating with some neither of the colleagues as they did not understand English clearly nor to speak it. Due to this, I also did not get a chance to perform some PR tasks like writing news releases as they were written in Bahasa Malayu.

MEDIA RELATIONS

I have noticed that UPM has a strong relationship with the media. The company has a book with all the media contacts that they are working with. This is a very good move for UPM as the media is needed for the companies for better communication with the public. Everyday when doing media monitoring there will be no time when we cannot find an article about UPM, and all the articles I have seen where the positive ones. When it gets to the communication with the public UPM have that taken care of.

PROFESSIONALISM

I have noticed that UPM employees are professionals, they way they conduct themselves, the way they communicate with each other and the way they interact with each other. They follow protocol and everything that they did. The employee’s qualification is of higher standards and they possessed all the attributes needed for one to be considered as a professional such as

Ø  Integrity

Ø  Staying Work

Even though they possessed all this characteristics, they also had a room for sense of humor amongst the colleagues which made it easier for interaction with each other especially for us interns.
