Leaving a bequest to charity?

Hi everyone,

This is my second post and i would like to share my experience in working on the bequest letter.

Well, every non- profit organization should have a bequest program because this may generate a huge opportunity to receive a huge amount of funds or even small size of the gift will also help the organization take a further step to meet their vision. However i was thinking "Will people really hope to leave a bequest to the charity? " , some people may decided to leave a bequest to their loved ones other than charity because its seem like bequest is a very personal gift and it desire to give someone who are really important in our life.

But in Australia, there are a high percentage of people who didn't set up their bequest during the life time and at the end their bequest may not result in the way that they used to think of. So, why we are not setting up the bequest in advance, and leave a bequest to our favourite charity  in the will, which could help someone in need and achieve our final wishes and continues the values and beliefs we have held as important throughout their life.

It is a good start to help someone who are in need more than us. Our simple help will make a big difference !

In the Children's Leukaemia & Cancer Research Foundation (CLCRF), we do have a bequest brochure to encourage people leaving us a bequest in their will but some people may not realized so we have to remind them.

Then what i have to do is drafting a bequest letter to remind our regular supporters to put us in their will. When i was drafting the letter, i have no idea what i am gonna to do because i don't have any experience of writing this so that i ask my boss to give me some ideas of what she want to include in the letter such as :(touching feel when people read it; not straight away of asking people money; get into the points; mentioned what we are doing and how can the supporters contribution can help us to continue the heartbreaking research into childhood cancer)  and browsing the example of other bequest letter.

After the couple times of edit, finally i made a bequest letter and my boss was also happy with it !!

Now the bequest letter is ready to send out and i am very exciting and hope to get back the positive outcome to the bequest program.
