Ask and you shall receive...

As the second week of my internship at CV! rolled around I was beginning to get a little bored.
There's only so much website editing and proof reading one can do.

I began to brainstorm some ideas that could help CV! gain some more exposure around the Curtin campus and the community. With the brainstorm in hand, I spoke to my director about being given a heavier workload of tasks. Asking for a little bit more responsibility is always a daunting thing to do, however once I asked for some more work i was completely bombarded!

After my third week at CV! I am now also doing media releases, working on the organisation's communication plan and have been assigned my very own event to develop, execute and run which I'm quite excited about!

I've been given the final social event for the year as my project. With event planning comes a lot of responsibility and creativity, so this week I've spent a lot of time researching quirky, unique themes and ideas to run with for the event! There's a lot of work to do, however I know that whenever i need help theres a team thats willing to jump in and support me, which is a really nice feeling after only being in the CV! office for three weeks!

This week I wrote my first media release for CV!. It has been probably a year since I have had to write a media release so it took me a little while to remember the process! After looking over some old course work and re-familiarising myself with the content i found it was quite simple! I suppose it is similar to riding a bike, once you have been taught how to do it, the knowledge will always come back to you!

After spending some time researching various appropriate media outlets, I'm currently waiting for approval on sending the media release out where hopefully it will be picked up by someone!

It's a strange thing to go into an organisation that doesnt have a media database already established or have a protocol for the layout of media releases, so without this it's almost difficult to know where to start! It does however mean that there are less hard and fast rules about the way that things should be done, meaning that i can put my spin on things!

This week I've definetly learnt that there is no harm in asking, and when you show enthusiasm and a willingness to accept more responsibility you will often be given the opportunitiy!
