Not Quite the end for me...yet!

Hi Guys,

So although my required 20days of interning is officially up, I have decided to stay on at Telethon to help out with the rest of the years events. As I'm sure many of you are aware the later half of the year is were most of the fun begins culminating with the Telethon weekend!!

Prior to that weekend i have the 92.9 kids appeal which sees Telethon raise funds specifically for much needed equipment at PMH. I will then be helping in the continued development of the Cole's Kids carnival held over Telethon weekend and will lend my hand to any other tasks required for the live 26hour broadcast. Offering my services a couple of days a week will really boost my experience within the not for profit industry and will in turn help me shape some vital contacts moving forward.

Hopefully i can aid in helping Telethon implement a viable PR relations plan to help further their organisation and its already broad reach.

I have to admit entering this unit at the start of the semester was a hassle!trying to find a placement and giving up work hours at my current job proved difficult obstacles to overcome. However, the experience and insight i have learnt from the placement program is beyond anything i could have every imagined. Not only has working at Telethon shaped my values and attitudes, but it has also provided me with a future direction for my career post studies and for that i will be eternally grateful.

Good luck to everyone in your future endeavors
Its been a pleasure interacting with all of you.

Until next time

Hi Caitlan,

It sounds like you made a great choice staying on at Telethon to help out with their Kids Appeal and Coles Kids carnival.

I also stayed on for several months at my placement after completing the required 20 days and I feel it was a great decision and I was able to really develop my skills by staying on through several events.

Making contacts in the industry is also something of huge value, and staying with the company over an extended period of time allows you to do this.
Bonding and forming close relationships with colleagues is so important because you never know where a future opportunity could come from.

Good luck with the rest of your time with Telethon

Hi Aimee,

Thanks so much for taking the time to read up on my experiences at Telethon.
I couldn't agree more, staying on lets you see projects through in their entirety. A allows you to build strong working relationships with those in the industry.

Its these relationships that will no doubt shape future opportunities and i think as we entire the industry gaining as much experience as possible now will no doubt shape our successes later.

kind regards

Hi Caitlin,

I just read your final post on how your are continuing on work at Telethon after your placement and I thought I would just let you know you’re not alone!

I have found my placement to be very insightful and therefore I have also asked to continue on at the consultancy after today. I don't think you can ever have to much experience!

Like Aimee French said, forming contacts in the industry is really of invaluable measure, as you never know where a future opportunity of employment could come from!

I additionally want to say, I think it is great you worked for a non-for-profit such as telethon. If anything other than gaining a rewarding experience; I am sure using your public relations skills to help further a great cause has given you many skills that will enable you take a confident step into the next phase of your public relations career.

I wish you the best of luck for your future endeavours, and with your continuing role at Telethon.

Kind Regards.
