GRETA – Rearrange it and what does it spell? Great!

It’s not quite the end for Colosoul and I yet, but it is the end of my 20 days, which means the final post.

Tricia Ray has been one of the most welcoming and beautiful people I have ever worked with, met even. Dedicating her life to charity and mentoring youths to help give us opportunities we would usually have to fight so hard for. From the moment I first entered the office on the day of my induction I knew it would be a bond I would like to maintain after my studies. Now I know that at least in some way it will.

When I was first handed Greta as my own project, I was given full reign just the basic outline of putting on an exhibition for Mental Health Week. In my mind I was relaunching the magazine and I needed more than 20 days to do that. For my final few days I started brainstorming again, (sadly, I need a slight hiatus to finish my units at university) for things that would work as great projects for the future.

I am in the process of implementing three new projects for Greta, as well as building it’s own staff so even if one person leaves there is still a crew to keep it going. I found that previously this hand-over of projects, while not too difficult for some publications was non-existent for Greta (all could do with a file like this).

This will be my first project once I can go back. With a folder already bought, I will be able to utilise the techniques I had learnt over my time at Curtin, with a strategy (which is non-existant so far), a media kit, media list and all the contacts/job positions and passwords for the publication.  I have already mentioned this to Trish and once I have established my Greta Hand-over Folder, other publications will use it as an outline for their own.

I also have a craft project underway, creating small necklaces with glass bottles (corks on), with motivational messages on the inside, each will be sold with an brochure regarding mental health. The bottles already arrived in the mail and I’m very excited to get started on this, thinking of ways to promote them and the message.

The final of my projects is already underway. We are re-establishing the e-zine, featuring the exhibition and it’s photographers as the theme for our relaunch! I have had to write this myself (a lot of my job description at Greta is PR, though it encompasses many other little odd jobs) and I have enlisted a man from overseas, who was formerly a Colosoul volunteer and will be re-joining as Greta’s graphic designer!

I have never been more grateful than I am to Trish and whoever decided this was a required unit. Colosoul has been one of the best learning experiences of my life, and has reaffirmed my belief that I chose the right industry for me.

All the best for everyone in the future,

Imogen
