Throughout my first week at PPR I called catering
companies to get quotes for large corporate functions, collected information on
editorial deadlines and put together four information booklets for the Mines and Money conference in Hong Kong, for the PPR staff who were attending the conference on behalf of our clients. PPR were there to interact with clients, network and ensure everything ran smoothly over there, our videographer Ryan, was commended on his timeliness, editing and uploading pictures and videos 3-day conference whilst over there, before the conference organisers themselves had the chance.
Mines and Money Conference in Hong Kong
One day I had to leave work early in order to travel to Bunnings to purchase products for a media release for the opening of the Bunnings Joondalup store. These items were:
- 5kg of potting mix
- One pair of calico gloves
- One terracotta pot
- One packet of seedlings
- And from the supermarket a packet of Easter eggs
Carrying the 5kg of soil on the bus to work the next morning is definitely something I’d never thought I’d do. But it was interesting to see the amount of effort the PPR consultants go through in compiling a media release to give to specific journalists.
Opening of Bunnings Joondalup Media Release
For the Bunnings Joondalup opening night I
uploaded the details to “Perth Events” websites, such as eventfinder.com, and weekend notes, describing the free event, with kids carnival, characters from Sesame Street
and The Collective. I then chose 4/300 of the best photos from the opening
night to be used in future media releases.
I had the opportunity to join the digital media team and help create a ‘prezi’ for an up and coming BHP tender for there community outreach
program. I looked through stock pile images for them and went through double checking for mistakes. The entire info-graphic was shown in the staff meeting that week as an example of how to use prezi, and how impressive it is over standard powerpoint. I know I'll be using prezi over PPP for all my assignments this semester.
I cant wait for this weekend, but I'll be back next week for week three.

Hi Casey
Sounds like PPR is a very interesting place to work; what an awesome, creative way to deliver a media release! That's definitely not something I would have ever pictured doing in my PR career.. But now that I've seen it, it makes me think of all the different ways in which we can deliver media releases as opposed to the traditional email!
It's great to see that you're enjoying consultancy. I'm looking forward to reading more interesting stories from you and the strange tasks that you have taken on!
Best of luck,
Lana
