Good PR = Great Event

Hey everyone!

To continue from my previous post, one of the most valuable experiences I have gained from my placement was being able to manage the event on the day itself.

I was involved in the International Women’s Day Luncheon - supporting the prevention of violence against women that was held on 7th March 2014 at Crown Perth.

The event ended well with great contributions from everyone and Dana Vulin (a victim of extreme violence against women) who has shared her story to inspire other women. I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to meet some amazing people during the event.

Although I enjoyed working on the event, there were times when I felt like I couldn’t handle the pressure and I started panicking! This is one of the areas that I need to improve on to be able to work effectively under pressure! In my opinion, a PR practitioner should have the ability to cope well with their work.

It is through this internship that I am able to assess my skills and capabilities in order to be fully prepared in the real world.

Can you work well under pressure? Would love to know how you cope with it!

Kind regards,

Hi Rhea

What a great event to be involved in not just professionally but also personally!

In my internship at the Department of Transport I was involved in organising an event but also writing an eight page newsletter under time constraints - I can certainly understand the pressure you experienced!!

Being able to stay calm and take everything in my stride are things I need to work on however I took comfort from the fact that my colleagues at the DoT told me that it would come with time and experience of the PR life!

The more experience and knowledge you have of the organisation but also how events should run the more confident you should become!

I hope everything goes well for you in the future!

Oh wow, that would of been fun to be apart of.

Well done on the accomplishment.

I do feel out of place when I'm nervous, I tend to lower my voice and go red.

I think regardless of how confident of a person you are, you will always encounter something similar to this every now and again- only natural.

However I do believe in time, you will be more confident in your role as you would have the experience behind anything you say or do.

I hope the best for you. Good luck.

Sounds like an amazing event to be a part of and a great networking opportunity as well. I often find with events that as the PR person you can't properly relax or enjoy the event until it's over and everything has gone to plan. I often worry in the lead up to events and stress that there is something I have forgotten to do. I have become a lot better with each event I do though and now I make lots of lists and try to be as organised as possible so that I'm prepared for any potential problems. Doing that makes me feel much more confident. - Verity
