PR in the Real World

HELLO!

I hope everyone’s enjoying their internships!

For the past few months I have been working as the public relations intern with Momentum Forum Events. For those of you who do not know what the company is about, Momentum Forum Events is an innovative marketing and networking organization with a focus on a strong charitable purpose.

As an international student I was lucky enough to be able to do my placement in Perth! The internship-hunting process was never an easy task for me. In fact, I have relied heavily on the ‘PRepare to Succeed in the Real World’ online module that was provided in blackboard to help me in my research on which industries I wish to pursue! I’m really glad that I have decided to do my internship at Momentum Forum Events, as it meant most of my responsibilities come under event management while implementing public relations strategies!

Of course I am thankful to Barbara, the founder of the company, for giving me the chance to work closely with her because I have had a very difficult time in securing a placement previously!

Have anyone of you had a challenge in securing an internship? Would love to know how you beat it!

Kind regards,
Rhea Fuentes Ker

Hi Rhea

Excellent to hear about an event company in Perth, I feel like they are hard to come by.

I didn't struggle so much in finding an internship it was more realizing I wasn't thoroughly enjoying my role and wanted to do something more meaningful so I found an alternative. I guess that is the benefit of internships it's a try before you buy opportunity!

Hope your loving it.

Hi Rhea

Congratulations on the internship! It sounds like you've scored a pretty good placement.

I was lucky enough to find an internship within the first few emails that i sent off, however finding additional internships has proved to be a bit of a challenge, especially when I target a specific area eg. consultancy.

Alas that is the problem with Perth; too many PR students, too few PR positions!

Good luck with your placement.

Hi Jacinta!

Great to know that you didn't struggle so much in finding an internship! I had a really tough time in securing a placement, as I wasn't clear on what area I wish to pursue! I agree with you though that the benefits of internship is to have the opportunity to try!

It allows you to gain meaningful experience from the internship and help you to decide if that is something you really want to do.

Hope everything is working out well for you!

Sincerely,
Rhea
