Its all over!

Hey guys,

So the Dine for Life experience is finally over! Or so I thought... As many of you probably know the thing with events is it needs a bit of work even after the event is over! But first let me tell you about how the event went down. The week leading up to the event was one of the craziest experiences I've ever had. I hd to take time out of work, university and my entire life was focused on Dine for Life.

Suddenly there was so much to do and organise at the last minute, and if I didn't do it no one would. The two founders Andjelka and Natasha had to fly over to Melbourne during that week as they needed someone over there to ensure that all ran smoothly. This meant it was down to just us interns, many of whom could not get work off before the event. I was in everyday on the phone, emailing, driving, literally running around the city trying sort things out at the venue and coordinate with twenty restaurants and dozens of sponsors. It was stressful to say the least.

The day of the event I thought would go smoothly as I'd be so frantic the days leading up to it, but no there was still so many last minute attacks I was not aware of. The founders were constantly calling asking if I'd done this and that and communication became an issue. Why hadn't i known all this before? How on earth did this run event last year? Anyway, the night came and I was an usher at the door checking off names on a checklist whilst assisting with managing the event. I was constantly on my phone calling restaurants who were unaware of this and that which was evidently my fault.

Overall the night was a success and speeches were made, people were enjoying themselves and most importantly a great deal of money was raised for the fantastic cause. I did enjoy the whole experience, however I often felt overwhelmed and insufficient, due to the lack of experienced staff mentoring me.

My internship last eight months long and it was an grueling yet amazing process. I hope everyone else got a little something out of theres!

Peace and Love,
Siobhan Herne xoxo

Congratulations for both the success of the event and finishing your eight-months (o.0) internship. I've also experienced the last minutes emergency during one of the events that I organised. To say that I was nervous is an understatement, I had to go for my supervisor for help and trust me it wasn't easy for me to do that. But I really learned a lot throughout the journey.

Had a good time reading your post.
Good luck in your future.

Wow - what an experience! Amazing achievement Siobhan, congratulations!

Events are certainly challenging and I think we can all appreciate that last minute rush. I experienced the same thing over the course of my internship with some of the PR campaigns I was involved in - certainly gets the blood pumping.

It sounds as though you have learnt some valuable lessons and gained so much experience throughout your internship - eight months is impressive.

Thank you for sharing your journey with us and all the best for the future.

Hi Siobhan,

I'm glad your event ended up a success and money was raised for a good cause!

With the stress of events, I can definitely relate! I think it is the nature of the industry though. leading up to events, everyone works of little sleep, minimal food and little patience!

I worked over 70 hours last week at the event and my casual job! Very exhausting!

I'm glad you enjoyed your internship - I sure did!

Good luck with your future!

Congratulations Siobhan, what an achievement! You must be feeling pretty darn proud of yourself.

Your post struck a chord with me, I too found that when it came to crunch time for the event I was working on, I needed to momentarily drop the other things I was involved in and focus all of my attention on making sure everything came together perfectly. I can honestly say I did not expect that to happen being an intern! But in the end I was grateful that my organisation involved me in all facets of the event, allowing me to experience the full breadth of it.

Best of luck to you in your job hunt!
