A
good day I bid to those taking PR Internship. Let’s start with my name, I’m Teo
Rui-Ming, 21 years of age and still enrolled in Curtin doing this very course.
I did my internship at a local 4 star hotel named Meritz Hotel situated in Miri,
Sarawak, Malaysia which currently is in its third year. That’s right folks, a
Hotel that’s still considered new by normal standards.
Now
on to the important part, I did my internship for a month starting from 29
December 2014 and ended on 30 January 2015. And yes, I know that
this blog post is exactly a month plus from when my internship ended, and
according to our glorious unit outline and wise online Blackboard modules, we
had to blog our Internship experience “fresh”. And so, to explain why I am currently
doing my blog posting now will explain one of my unusual ‘habit’ much later in
another blog post.
Carrying
on, I was placed under the Marketing Department, Public Relations Section. Formed
since 2012, Meritz Hotel so far have only have one Public Relations
Practitioner which so happened to be one of my senior from the same university
with the very same degree as I am currently pursuing. Coincidence? Maybe not
so, I like to think of it as it’s a small world.
During
my internship with Meritz Hotel, I performed PR tasks akin to those of an
In-house PR roles. From media clippings to corresponding “sponsorships” with
external “clients”, I actually enjoyed my brief one month internship with Meritz
Hotel. The main thing in this internship that I learned that, is no matter how
good or how bad we do our “assignments” in the University, out here in the real
working PR world, it’s totally different. And so, I am glad that we have to
take this course or unit as it actually prepares us for the ‘real’ world.
That should be all for now, stay tuned.

Hi! Congratulations on finishing your internship! It sounds like you've had the most amazing time and learnt so much. I totally agree when it comes to real life ethics versus what you think is correct in class. It's a whole new world with different conflicts you have to consider but again well done on all the hard work and good luck!!
Many Thanks, Sarah.
