Firstly I would like to say that finding an
internship was not as easy as I thought. I sent mails randomly to several
companies, only some replied back. But there was only one company who contacted
me personally to fix an interview. I was very happy with the thought of having
an interview. The interview went on smoothly and I was offered the chance to do
my internship at #Sedeco – Services Dévelopment et Communications Limitée.

On
the first day, I had to give a good impression, so I reached quite early. I was
received by other interns at Sedeco, Nina and Glorine. Both new lot of things
on Sedeco as they had been there since 2-3 months now. I was apprehensive at
first whether I would live to expectations, so many employees and new faces but
after talking to the fellow interns, I felt at ease. I visited the several
sections of Sedeco and was surprised to see the number of employees working in
the company.
When I went at Sedeco to start my new
journey, my supervisor led me to my table and told me that when she joined the
company as an intern, she used to sit here. I said to myself that I need to
live up to the expectations now. I signed the contract of confidentiality as
well as read the rules and guidelines that needed to be followed by everyone
working at Sedeco. From time to time, the fellow interns used to come to see
how I was doing.
On the same day, the IT technician, opened an account for me so as to
have access to mails regarding the company. I had to prepare a timeline for the
activities that I would do during the internship. I also got the opportunity to
read and analyse the brochure of the company as I had to propose new ideas for
a new brochure as the current one was abit bulky.
My first day went on well. I am
really indebted to the Director of Sedeco, Mrs Sandrine Verriez as well as my
supervisor Mrs Jenisha Bye Ramma- Mohabeer for allowing me to join this awesome
experience.

Hello Hans,
I am happy that you finally got your internship and I can totally relate to what you said. It was not an easy task for me too but at the end, I finally got a place where I could put into practice my PR knowledge and above all, learn as much as I can. Even if it has not been easy at the very start, I presume that we have both learned about perseverance and keep faith until we got a positive answer.
The organization where I was working was in French too. It changes a little bit since we are both used to English but I must say that I actually enjoyed doing the tasks in this language.
I worked in a small company and I presume that, it must be another experience to work in a larger group of 200 people, where you probably met several new people during your internship.
Having people helping you to feel at ease it really important for the adaptation in the work because from my own experience, feeling at ease does not only makes me feel valued but also helps me to be more confident and believe that I will be able to make the most of the internship.
Thank you for the link you shared, it gives me a better idea about the company where you are working and I wish you good luck for your internship if it is still going on and also for your report.
Estelle.
Hello Gaelle, Thank You for your reply. Indeed it was tough t find an internship. It was really difficult at first to adapt to french as we are used to work in English. Agree that support is a very important thing especially when you are in a new environment, surrounded with new people. All the pleasure was mine and I was happy that you were able to learn something new from my blog post. Thank You very much and wish you as well all the very best for the upcoming assignments and exams.
Hi Hans,
I also had to apply to several companies before I was accepted ARCADIA TRAVEL. I guess Mauritians are not too eager with the idea of internships, still it's good practice to revise our CVs and draft application letters. Another interesting task for public relations students is the research and speech writing to be prepared for interviews. It does send a positive impression to he interviewers.
Also, as you said, the previous interns will be the firsts to know a lot about the company. What helps is how they themselves had to write reports for their university modules, therefore they kindly guide us toward useful content. That is so valuable.
I'm sure your placement was as enjoyable as mine!
Gaelle.
Hello Gaelle,
Thank you for your comment. Yes you are absolutely right about the search of internship and guess most of the companies in Mauritius are like that, not ready to take interns probably taking them for a liability. Speech writing and conducting research has been one of the tasks that I have been doing at SEDECO Ltee am I am really fortunate to have learnt these skills. The previous interns have always been helping me out in understanding the ways of SEDECO Ltee and I am really grateful to them. One of them has already given me ideas how to write my report. Sure. I really hope you have a good one at ARCADIA TRAVEL.
