Prevention Session

For those who have been participating in an event during your internship, you should probably know how exciting it is! Where I am working, we do several sessions of prevention about HIV and Aids and I went with the team for this activity.

HIV is not equal to AIDS!
HIV is not AIDS

Before working at this NGO, HIV and Aids were the same for me thus as you surely concluded, it was impossible for me to go for prevention session without being correctly informed about the subject! I often interchange the terms when talking without knowing that these two concepts are different from each other. If you want to know more about it, this link will help you to understand the difference between HIV and Aids.

Get ready
Brochures used for the prevention

The week before the activity, I received a training session to know more about HIV & Aids and the methods of transmission. The course was very interesting not only because it was interactive but also because it helped me to broaden my knowledge on the virus instead of basing myself on the ideas shared by the society. One week before, we counted and organized the brochures and other materials that will be used for the prevention. The responsible for the prevention session, brief me and another volunteer and showed to us how to do the different games that will help people know more about HIV & Aids.

THE day

We arrived on the spot at least one hour before, and started organizing all brochures, placing the games and the banner and preparing software to projecting videos. After setting up everything, people came to visit us and it was time for me, to go towards them and to ensure that they learn the more possible about HIV and Aids. Even if it was the first time that I was doing this kind of prevention, I must say that I really enjoyed it and it made me be more confident about myself. I found it very innovative and interesting to instruct people through games since it was the element that was attracting people to us. At the end of the day, we needed to count and update our list of assets when we reach the office.

Future choices

Through this beautiful experience: meeting new people, interacting with them and raising awareness about the presence of HIV and Aids in the society made me remember that I would like to work in an environment where we are moving, meeting new people and not remain constantly in an office. This internship is inciting me to think more about what I would like to do afterwards.

Thank you for taking time to read my post.

Hello Estelle,
I am astonished to hear that HIV and AIDS are 2 different terms and conditions. I always thought they were the same. Thanks for the link. I am very pleased to learn that you have had a training session and also enjoyed the event where you had the opportunity to interact with people. It feels nice to hear that you plan to continue in this direction and want to create awareness.
Thank You
Hans

Hello Hans,
I can relate, because before working there, these two terms were the same for me. Thank you, it was a beautiful experience not only for the training where I learned so many things about HIV&AIDS but the session also. I realized that society don't talk about it and it is really important to raise awareness about the subject so that we can talk about it without any fear or shame.
Thank you for taking a little time to read my post.
Good luck for the report.
Estelle.
