The first week of an internship is never easy; besides the nerve-wracking experience the sole expectations might bring, one must enter an unknown sphere filled with unknown people.
A good way to tackle this situation was to lower the humane expectations of the whole experience and get ready to earn everything from scratch. Starting from this point, socialising felt even easier as colleagues are approached from a formal, professional perspective, and later, prove to be amiable and helpful.
Similarly, lowering apprehensions of what the work might entail is very helpful when one places oneself as open to learning, as, in the end, many tasks alotted in the first week seem familiar and only require minor adjustments.
The first week is also a period of observation of the work environment from a social point of view, especially as all workplaces have different etiquettes and codes of behaviour. It is therefore a good period to observe what kind of attitude and ambience prevails ( the cold, and entirely formal relationship placing colleagues remotely from each other, or a rather collegial and good humoured ambience).
Luckily, in some cases, entering a communications agency might prove particularly refreshing as the nature of the job requires social skills and, most of the time, a rather warm, engaging approach to work.
