So now that my final report is completed, i realised the Public Relations unit in the Council does pretty much everything.
It definitely is not the same as other public relations department out there. Here in the Council, our department is pretty much in charge of everything, well except the fact that the department is also the Corporate Development unit.
It is not partly about being a PR practitioner in this department, it is about knowing more than that, you have to be aware of all practices of other departments as well, and you can not tell people you do not know about anything else.
As my department has to directly address issues and matters to the Mayor, he usually comes down to the office, and there are several times where he actually questions you things that you do not know. "How can you say you do not know when it is your job to know everything?" - what he always says.
You have to be aware and open-minded or else you will be a laughing stock, seriously.
So I was just thinking about sharing this small part with all of you. Especially the ones who are interested in working with the Council. It isn't that bad, you will definitely gain a lot of different experiences and will be able to get in contact with people you will never thought of.
