Undoubtedly, we are all aware that social media platform is important in today’s world. As I mentioned in my first blog, Le Meridien Kota Kinabalu (LMKK) emphasizes on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Weibo for their social media.  This blog will emphasize on the importance of social media engagement. First of all, social media engagement is vital in many aspects, which comprises in enhancing relationships between organization and the customers/followers, corporate reputation improvement by sending message across to capture people’s attention and getting them to talk about the particular events or activities.

During this Raya festival month, I am very grateful that I’ve got the opportunity in contributing with the process of creating Facebook and Instagram Photo contest that held by LMKK. LMKK is having a photo contest where contestants have to take a picture of themselves and their favorite local Malaysian food and hash tag #lemeridienkk and post on the Facebook and Instagram page. This event will be held for one month. Media monitoring will be conducted everyday on how many people were participating in the contest.

Furthermore, it has come to most of the organizations’ attention where social media could contribute in enlarging customer base significantly. The main reason is there are numerous of people ranging from various ages, occupations, nationalities, races etc. are using social media, therefore, having and managing social media platform could lead to an efficient yet cost benefit way of transferring information or messages from the corporation to the people out there regardless their own customers.


For example, Le Méridien Kota Kinabalu is using their social media platform to draw the attention of SPG members and engage with them. Despite providing services to their own hotel guests, LMKK is making an effort to attract external customers eg. SPG (Starwood Preferred Guest) members to spend their money in the hotel by putting the special offers and promotions of their restaurants and lounge on their social media in order to get them informed.
