Hi readers! This is the first post about my internship in public relations field. The place where I having my internship is ParkCity Everly Hotel Bintulu Sarawak, currently the largest hotel in Bintulu and I am glad to join their group. A lot of people asked me that “is it fun during your internship?”, “what have you learned on the first week of your internship?”. Well, I would like to describe my first week of internship as a busy week.
After I have been through my first week of internship, I finally realised that the differences between the real world of public relations and the classes of public relations in university. In the real world of public relations, public relations professionals must be professional in communicating with the publics which includes clients, journalists and reporters. This is to show their professionals towards the public and maintain the reputation of the hotel.
Besides that, public relations professionals in the hotel have the responsibility to write the press releases for different events. For example, I was ordered by my supervisor to write a press release for a upcoming event which is a wedding fair. I was given a sample of wedding fair’s press release from last year and to write similar press release for wedding fair 2015. By that time, I wrote the press release carefully in order to make sure the information, grammar and vocabulary used in the press release are correct. If the information and words used in the press release are not accurate, it may brings the damage of the reputation of the hotel.
On the other hand, public relations professionals must build a good relationship between the medias such as journalists and reporters. From what I saw in the office, the public relations professional contacted the journalists and reporters from Borneo Post, United Daily News, Sarawak Tribune and many more to visit to an event organised by ParkCity Everly Hotel Bintulu. This is to ensure that the journalists and reporters can write and publish the details of the event to the publics through newspapers. Besides that, public relations professionals must attired in formal clothing and tidy hair so as to show their professionalism. It is not easy to be a professional public relations person as we need to concern a lot of things. There are more challenges to face during this internship and I hope I can done my work successfully.
Lastly, let me show you some photos of the hotel. Good luck everyone and all the best!
