End of Internship, Start of New Journey

Good morning everyone! This is my last post and also the last day of my internship in ParkCity Everly Hotel Bintulu! Sounds great but actually the end of internship means the start of my new journey! I am going to graduate very soon and is time for me to step into the real world of public relations.

During the period of internship, I have learnt a lot of things that I never experienced before in the classes in university. For example, I attended the press release event with the reporters from different newspapers for the first time in my life. Well, I have some suggestions for those who are going to have their internship in the future.

1) Apply theory into real life
Use the theories that we have learnt in the class into the real life. For example, the things that we should concern when we are going to write a media release such as format, information given, grammar and vocabulary used. When you are assigned to write a media release during the internship, you need to make sure the format, information given, grammar and vocabulary used in the media release are accurate.

2) Be punctual
As a public relations person, punctuality is very important in order to maintain the brand image of yourself and the organisation.

3) Formal wear and tidy hair
Public relations person is the one who present the organisation as a brand image so formal wear and tidy hair are required during work. If the public relations person dress up casually or with messy hair, the reputation and brand image of the organisation may damaged.

4) Just ask if you have any doubt
As an intern, I guess there are a lot of doubts about the job. Well, just ask your supervisor or colleagues in the organisation so that you can learn more! Don’t be shy!

Just a few suggestions for all of you, I hope this can helps you in your future!

On the other hand, my colleagues and the people in this hotel are friendly and willing to guide me what to do during the internship. My colleagues will ask me along whenever there is any event within the hotel. For example, they are going to organise birthday celebration for one of the staffs and I was invited to join the birthday celebration. We enjoy the food and gather together which also increase the relationship between the colleagues. This makes me feel so blessed and grateful to have them as my colleagues!  After this internship, I believe that I can become a better public relations person in the future and I hope I have the opportunity to work together with them as a team! All the best everyone and good luck to myself!
