What I learned about becoming an Emcee

I was told by my supervisor to be an Emcee for an event at Pustaka Negeri Sarawak, Miri on the 1st of October on the topic 'Eczema'. This talk is by a doctor name Dr. Wong Tiong Hien from the Department of Prediatrics, Hospital Miri.

At first I was very nervous and scared because I never emcee before and this is going to be my first time. Honestly speaking, I have fear in facing a lot of people while on the stage or doing presentation. However, in preparing myself my supervisor told me to prepare a script and she gave me examples of script for me to follow. I did my script and asked my supervisor to check if there is anything that I should change on the script. My supervisor asked me to read out loud as it is a way for me to practice and calm myself down a day before my day of emcee.

On the day itself, I did a great job as told by my supervisor and the other officers. I was shocked and amazed by how many people showed up because my supervisor told me that I was her first intern in getting the auditorium full house approximately 200 people inside. I had a great time in experiencing myself on how to emcee an event.

Besides that, what I learned in class before on writing media release is different than in the ones that I do during my internship. I learned a lot from my supervisor in doing media release both in English and Bahasa Malaysia. My Bahasa Malaysia is not so good and I mostly ask my supervisor and the other staff to help me in translating. But most of all I did my best and experience a lot of things during this placement of internship.

Finally, I learned a lot and experience all sort of Public Relations work during my internship placement. Till the next post!

Hi Karen,
First of all, Congratulations!
Secondly, I think we were all nervous when doing public speaking.Remember the first time we learn how to write a speech and the first time we gave a speech in front of the PR class? I was stucked by a sharp question and my face turned hot like i get burnt! haha. But in the end we learn that practice and confidence will make perfect. Hope you enjoy your internship and I am sure one day you will become a pro Emcee! Cheers!
