First Day!

Hello everyone!

So today was the first day of my internship at Youth Focus - a not-for-profit organisation which works closely with youth aged between 12-25 that struggle with mental issues; to prevent youth suicide.
Not having done an internship before, I had absolutely no idea what expectations to bring to the table. If anything, I was nervous! Luckily for me, I scored this fantastic opportunity through a bit of networking!

At the moment i'm unsure what path to take with Public Relations post graduation.
I'm very interested in events management and quite curious about crisis management. I'm really hoping this internship will give me some direction. I feel this internship will help me develop some great writing skills that I can take into the future as is has a heavy focus on communication and Social Media.

My first day involved a couple of different tasks; proof reading a media release and managing the Youth Focus social media accounts.

This is my first social media post for a youth event called Young Men's Project.
I had the opportunity to work closely with the communications manager for this task.

As I'm working for a not-for-profit organization that deals closely with the youth in our community, I have such a great appreciation for the things the team does behind the scenes to run these events.

I've set myself a goal for this internship. I've never been amazing at writing media releases and briefs rather, I enjoy public speaking and presentations. So my goal is to better my writing skills and to do so, I've asked my intern co-ordinator to set me some writing tasks that she can give me feedback on.

I've started this internship at the perfect time as I get to be involved in the re-branding of Youth Focus, I also get to be apart of the upcoming social media strategy as well as the Night of Nights Ball driven by Audi.

I'm really looking forward to my next day in the office as I get to attend an Entertainment Book event.

So that wraps up my first day and my first blog post.

Chat soon!
