Hi bloggers,
I am in my final stages of completing my internship at the Department of Government Housing and have learnt a few things along the way. Through attending a number of meetings with a range of clients, i have learnt both dressing suitably and behaving appropriately is vital when it comes to ensuring the success of the organisation.
As just last week, I found myself apparent to believing both "success and seriousness "can be a result of dressing and acting accordingly. The meeting which I attended, resulted in a postive media interview regarding our teams current project. In addition I was able to see how dressing appropriately for what I believed to be a quick meeting, then turned into me being filmed on the spot (interview). In addition having being trained how to answer questions from the media by the corporate communications manager at the Department of Government Housing I felt prepared in terms of knowing how to answer accordingly to the questions that were asked. Overall I have learnt not only does the behaviour of the person play an important part in determining the success of the organisation but so does the way they dress.
3 Tips i have learnt which prep you the most when answering questions from the media:
-Ensure knowledge and background on the issue and topic
-Be concise and confident when communicating
-Be legitimate and honest.
Thanks for listening.

Hi Georgia,
Sounds like an interesting experience getting to be in front of the camera. I completely agree with your post, dressing appropriately can make a huge impact, especially in public relations. Being well presented makes you look organised and efficient. In public relations a lot of the time we are selling. Whether it be a pitch to a client, or a client pitch to a journalist or networking at an event, we are always being judged on our presentation. It's almost as if our appearance is a representation of the work we are capable of, so best make it a good one!
Enjoy the rest of your internship.

Hi Georgia,
Sounds like a really interesting experience that you got to partake in.
I honestly could not agree more about how dressing appropriately can make a huge difference. During my time at my placement I really enjoyed seeing the way in which all of my temporary coworkers dressed for work everyday. Being at a creative consultancy it was fun, yet professional and I could see how this way of dressing would speak for them as people before they even got the opportunity to introduce themselves. I myself really enjoyed being able to dress appropriately and blend in with the team in our almost all black working looks we all seemed to adopt. I really believe how you dress and appear is the first step in communicating effectively with others.
Wishing you all the best with the rest of your placement,
Kind Regards
Bronte
Hi Georgia,
This post caught my eye between the many posted. This was especially because I was curious as to how others had to dress and behave during their internship. I found myself to quickly adapt to the environment both socially and professionally within the consultancy I was interning in. I found the consultancy to have a very casual vibe to it when it came to dressing within the office and behaving between each other. It was almost as though the work place may not have been taken as seriously as it should have been. Although this was the case, each individual was very proper and professional when it came to their communication with their clients.
Thank you for sharing your personal point of view on this topic.
