Hi everyone,
As a follow up to my previous post I would like to write
about my first day experience at Magnetize. I began my internship journey at
the end of February and I must admit I was nervous. I hadn’t previously completed
an internship and I was nervous about what it was going to be like. Was it
going to be The Devil Wears Prada style of coffee runs and phone answering?
What if people in the office didn’t like me? What if I didn’t dress the same as
everyone else? What if I didn’t know enough to get the job done? These were all
real issues that I struggled with in the walk to my first day. However upon
arrival my new team warmly greeted me. I
was introduced to Teagan who would be my go to contact for my duration of the
internship at Magnetize. I was taken around the office, which I found out we
share with accountants and introduced to everyone.
The people were genuinely lovely and the most common
question after where do you study? Was ‘ are you here on Fridays? That’s the
drinking day!’. I instantly felt welcomed and at ease in the environment, so
that was already toning down the first day nerves. The next big moment came
when I was led to my own desk and set up on the computer. Teagan then ran through with me some of the
legal requirements, gave me a bunch of paper work to fill out and told me to
come grab her once I was done. With the
boring stuff out of the way it was now time to be brief on my first days worth
of work, cue nerves. I was instructed to go about making a hash tag database
for several different topics, create social media posts for clients on Facebook
and Instagram and do a draft blog post for a hair dressing client.
It was at this point I became thankful for all of my
studies…and a borderline unhealthy addiction to Instagram. I took these tasks
up with the confidence in knowing that I would be able to execute them in a way
that would do my education proud. After completing all of the tasks I emailed
them off to Teagan for feedback, which I was grateful to hear was positive. I
left my first day feeling confident, happy and most of all determined. I was so
worried that I would come into my internship and realise that it was not what I
wanted to eventually pursue careers wise. Today confirmed that I was going in
the right direction. Stay tuned.

Hi Bronte,
Just read your blog and i think its so great hearing how well your first day went, i believe it is always nice to feel welcomed by others ,ask i think it makes such a difference. I remember my first day at my internship, i was so lucky to have the general manger of the company showing me around and making me feel as important as the others. Wishing you all the best of luck with it!
