Borneo Safari

Hi everyone,

Now I want to share another new experience that I had gained from my internship when I joined Borneo Safari, the 2009 New Year eve countdown at Eastwood Valley (my placement company). Another job that needs to be done after office hour, that night we have to work until midnight, if I am not mistaken is until 1am something, although it is tired and busy day but this is the best and fun new experience I had in my life.

Before that, we were busy with all the preparations for the Borneo Safari, such as arrangement of the stage, decoration, backdrop, organizing a rehearsal for all performers who will perform during that night, prepare prizes for lucky draw and recheck on the program list to make sure everything was under control. I was also given the task to help my superiors to be the stage manager assistant. My job was helping him handle the whole performance and activities related with stage management. This gave me an opportunity to socialize with a lot of different people, not only staff from different departments but also our managing director, performers, and other guests. It was a great experience working with these people and I think it improve my communication skills, which we all know is vital for us working in PR industry.

To cheer our guests, we had to get them participate in our activities and performance. So, what we did was invite them to dance with us while our invited band was performing their show. At first, it was quite embarrassing to dance with people you do not know and seriously I do not even know how to dance. If they want me to dance aerobics I can do it, but dance like in club or disco, I really never tried it before. Funny right? But for my job, I have to do it. After a while, I felt more comfortable with that task and we keep entertained our guests until the end of the event. 15 minutes before New Year countdown, my colleagues and I had to go to the backstage and make the preparation for the 10 minute countdown. What I can say on that night, everyone including our guests was celebrating crazily as they were very happy with the celebration at Eastwood.

Not only that, I forget to mention that we also get free buffet!!! Is it fun working in this kind of environment and with all friendly colleagues? Can eat, dance with guest, enjoy the performance and most important is gain new experiences in handling such a big event. But that is the last day and night I work with them. Now, I really miss those days. So, for those who still doing your internship, appreciate every moment you are having now. Wish you all luck and have a nice day. Cheers!!!

Best Regards,
