Hi everyone,
This is my first post however I am actually about half way through my placement at Princess Margaret Hospital. I am really enjoying it there and I’m learning a lot, mainly through observation but also with some hands on experience.
The PR department at the hospital has been divided in to two for this year as the hospital is celebrating its centenary. While there is a centenary team that focuses solely on the hospitals 100th birthday, I am in the general Public Relations department for the Child and Adolescent Health Service which includes PMH as well as Child and Adolescent Community Health. It’s taken me a little while to get my head around the structure of it.
I have spent a lot of time focusing on internal communications since starting. All the publications around the hospital need to be correctly branded and with an appropriate disclaimer and I have gone through from A-Z and updated and re-branded facts sheets for the intranet and for the wards. I also have assisted with the upcoming newsletter and as one of the PR staff members is on leave I have been fortunate to be able to be further involved with the next edition of the newsletter ‘Kite Tales’.
It’s been interesting observing the media and their interest in health matters, with their general media enquiries or chasing a follow up story, as well as escorting reporters, journalists and photographers around the hospital.
I am looking forward to the second half of my placement and am hoping to gain some more variety in my experience.

Emily, I think it is great that the hospital is having both of us there.
Its amazing that within a meter that our office is divided we do such different things, but are both getting such great experience from what we are doing.
I know what you mean, the structure of the hospital is very confusing, but once you do get your head around it, it’s a really great place to work.
I am super jealous that you get to work with the media. I mean next you will be meeting Kochie and all your dreams will come true!
Keep up the good work.
