I attended many press conferences, launches in the media and ICT sector, met and made loads of contacts, it made me realize one thing, that i needed to have a wider knowledge of my surrounding and events. i think i can justify myself in this particular situation considring i'd been away from the Counrty for a while and the only news i follow is pretty much the headlines. there has been a lot of development back home and half the time i realised i was alomst blank when it came to having conversations with people in the industry.
Secondly, there was a press conference that left me short of crying. The minister of information and commuincation was giving a talk during one of the media conferences in regard to the communication Act. The media had pretty much insulted him from the day the bill was passed in parliament, blamed him and just made him look like a horrible selfish person who wanted to control or shut the media. He gave an example of a cartoon drawn of him in one of the papers and hhe had not seen it since he barely bothers with that part of the paper.
Unfortunately for him that day his 9 year old son came asking "Daddy i think this is meant to be you, why have they drawn you like the devil?" he obviosuly did not know what to answer to that question. i personally thought that was exteremely sad. As he explained it does not take one person to come up with a whole Act such as the Commuincation Act which is a revision of the one written 10 years ago. Why was he the only one being blamed?
I also realised that KFCB would have a hard time being accepted by the media. as my boss did his presentation, there were murmurs all over and during the question and answer session one journalist said "i see your actually the people who will be censoring us." I hope that will time it will get a better image than what it is already being perceived us. With the plans they have ahead of them am sure it's most likely to be accepted by the publics and the society as a whole.
