My internship was coming along well after I have recovered from high fever in week 1. I was busy doing the press clippings for the clients, which I find this task to be very easy but challenging at the same time. Press clippings are basically to prove to the clients that PR and the media have made their parts by publishing the clients’ product releases be it in the magazines or daily newspapers. I will take out the particular page and labeled them by the date it was being published plus the publications. Daily newspapers included English, Mandarin and Malay versions. Those need to be checked everyday to make sure that the media are taking the company’s press releases seriously and that they are being well explained what certain products benefit their readers and how it will create people’s attentions by reading them. The same methods applied to magazines but I can go through them during the weekends. (:
By end of the month, I was asked to compile everything according to the date and compile it so that I could start on doing the next step, which is called the ROI (Return Of Investment). Here, I had to calculate the media rate of each product placements from every publication so that the clients will get a clear view of the PR profits and what PR has done for them. It all has to be prepared every end of each month and will be presented to the clients by year-end. I have done so much of press clippings for my company include big shot clients such as TOUS, THEOBROMA CHOCOLATE, CADBURY, MS. READ, DELICIOUS, DUDE & the DUCHESS, SPANISH TOURISM BOARD, ASIA ASSET MANAGEMENT, NANDO’S, SAFWA HEALTH, KORDELS, GETHA BEDDING, UMW and galore.
In the middle of week 3, I also was asked to do a lot of clerical work that are the payment vouchers for the company’s account, made claims to the clients, prepared details of the money flows for my CEO to write cheques to the bank and other companies and also did few other stuff for the charities. Working is already hectic itself plus I had to do so much of those things above for 7 people! It was kind of tense but as the day went by, I learnt to practice to get use to it. Besides, I already fell in love in PR and would really want to make PR as a career to start after graduating! (:
More fun and exciting weeks to come! Cheers~!

hey I did those weekly thing too, just that we called it "bukti iklan" or media clipping ... but all on all, the same point :)what do you with them after the clipping? because in my experience they actually needed the ones that i have arranged to claim something :)
and you dealt with numbers i see? that's good, cause I was actually scared to have to deal with those, not my are of expertise :p but you seemed to like it so much?
there were so many clients, i see? do you also get in touch with them?
as i have mentioned in my blog, i needed to prepare it for the r.o.i and yes, it has got to do with the claims and the clients profits.
yup, i like it because it teaches me to be very careful plus i get to understand why they have the media rate for all those things that has been published in the printed media and also how it makes so much profits by 3 times more in PR!
i dont get in touch with the clients as my work mates know them best! :) I was more in charge in keeping up the good bounce with the media and celebs. Coolnest! Hehehe.
Hey Lina. I'm sorry to hear that you had fever during your internship.
Btw, I was wondering, besides I cutting and collecting press clippings from the newspapers or the clients, do you have to find news abpout the clients on the internet and on television or radio too? If so, how do you do that?
As for my agency, we have a software tool which is caled MediaBank where we get updated lists of what's out there on TV/Radio and we can find anything relating to our clients? Do you have that at yours?
Thank you. Hope to hear back from you;)
