Hi Everyone
Welcome to the latest instalment of the Truffle diaries! Since I last posted there has been much to do on the truffle projects. I spent most of one day last week drafting and setting up emails for the various recipients of an invitation to the launch of the Mundaring Truffle Festival which is on the 11th of June. The actual festival isn’t until the 8th and 9th of August.
The 2009 festival is going to be a massive event with hundreds of food and wine vendors setting up shop in the piazza in the Streets of Mundaring. The most exciting part of the festival is the long table degustation luncheons where the truffle is the star of a delectable 12 courses.
There are a whole bunch of truffle inspired activities like fungi walks and truffle dog demonstrations and if you’re lucky you can snag yourself a spot in the master cooking classes with Truffle experts Alain Fabregues and Peter Gilmour.
My role in this has been to make sure that the right people are being invited so that we have a range of representation from the media. So there’s someone from 7, 9, 10, The West, the Sunday Times etc. Also I have to make sure that the right message is being sent to these people. This is all about the relationships that my firm has with specific sponsors and media people. You have to be really alert so that you don’t step on anyone’s toes or accidentally burn bridges.
I found out about a week later that the invitation we sent as an attachment to the email that went to all the media guests we wanted to invite, had a major error on it that could have cost the sponsorship.
Luckily it was righted before any damage could be done and luckily for me it wasn’t my fault. But I have definitely learnt my lesson about double, triple, quadruple checking everything that gets sent out to the media.
So now the focus is back on the Manjimup Truffle Affaire which is happening THIS WEEKEND! It's very exciting and oh so nervewracking!
Thanks Guys

Hi Rachel,
Thanks for your note on photo shoots I am glad someone else understands!
Wow your Mundaring Truffle Festival sounds great. I am impressed that you have managed to book in so many of the media on the day. I will have to go and check it out in August. Mundaring is where I grew up so I will try to get some friends to come along.
What company are you working for?
All the best for your report.
Cya,

The thought of making a mistake similar to the one you have mentioned makes me cringe.
I shall certainly take this lesson with me!
Throughout my internship I have always worried over how any of my emails looked and sounded. Working at a charity it was extremely important to me that I sounded professional and did not make any mistakes because we could not afford to be come off as pushy, demanding or offensive.
The festival really sounds exciting...and delicious. Best of luck.
