Work experience with HSBC Malaysia

Hi Everyone,

I realize that it is the last week of the semester and hence I am extremely late in contributing to this blog. I could not write the blogs earlier in the year due to unforeseen circumstances.

I did my PR 393 Professional Practice in my home country Malaysia, was very fortunate to get a placement with the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC), Malaysia. When I first sent in my application I was very certain it would be rejected as HSBC is one of the most prestigious foreign banks in Malaysia and also I was told that they do not take on interns or students doing their attachments. I applied anyway but also to a few other places. Imagine my surprise when I received a letter from the HSBC human resources telling that they have received my letter of application and accept to take me on as an intern.

My first day of work was very exciting. I did feel nervous, especially when I was asked to introduce and talk about myself to the entire branch of HSBC. The first day of work was relaxing as I was told to get to know the staff and their duties and responsibilities. I also was taken on a tour of the office and briefed on the various transactions and businesses that go on at the bank. I was lucky as the staff was easy to get along with and made me feel very welcome on my first day.

The bank made an impressive first impression as being a foreign bank, the international standard of HSBC is maintained yet the products and services offered are tailored and cater to the Malaysian people. The atmosphere in HSBC is a very multicultural one, therefore this made it easy for me to adapt and I felt comfortable. My first day at HSBC left me looking forward to spending my time there and carrying out the tasks and assignments pre-assigned for me.
