As i have previously blogged, Princess Margaret Hospital are having an Open Day on the 4th July 2009.
However yesterday we were informed that in the instance that swine flu became more of a problem in Western Australia, that we may have to cancel the Open Day. For this reason, it was necessary for us to organise a contingency plan if this occured.
This plan involved working closely with the PR department to organise media releases and orther communication to inform the public that the Open Day would no longer be on.
Hopefully this will not happen, as alot of hard work has gone into organising the Open day.
We are looking forward to some exciting things on the day inlcuding the recent announcement that 96fm is on board to do an outside broadcast, which is fantastic!
Yesterday i also took my first tour through theatre, one of the highlights of my placement - just in time!! It was alot bigger than I had expected but just as busy as i had expected! The staff at PMH are truely inspirational people who deserve all the praise in the world.
This is my last post! and I want to say that i have had a fantastic time on prac - it has been an eye opening experience and has given me tools to take with me through the rest of my career!
I am so glad Curtin appreciate the importance of work placements and hope that they continue!

Hi Fran
I can't believe that swine flu might make cause them to cancel the open day! Luckily we are taught a lot about crisis and issues management in our course!
Although it's really sad that it mite affect all your planning it must have been really interesting to work on a contingency plan for the open day. Did they come up with a solution at all?
It sounds like you have had a very well rounded experience of PR in your placement!
Do you know what type of PR you would like to get into?
Good luck in the future!
