Internship (checked checked)

It's approaching towards the end of my internship, this is going to be the last week of my internship with BAG Networks Sdn Bhd. They have got a tradition where interns are suppose to do an internship presentation when they finished their internship in the company, so I did mine last Tuesday at the conference room with a number of staffs from differnet deparment as the audience. It went out really great and most of them actually asked questions which I think it's good when they have something to say or comment on my tasks.

Although I'm placed under Human Resources but I get to do tasks that involves employee relations which I think is a basic knowledge of PR. The fact that employees are also part of the internal key publics of a company made me learn more on how employee relations work and how to maintain the good relations between employees and the company (sense of belonging).

On another note, just something to share with you guys, I have a question to arise to fellow readers:

Is it crucial for a company (esp. company handling with clients) to have a specialized PR team or is it not necessary?

On my side, I do think it's very crucial. Every company providing services to clients (in this case, BAG Networks is providing business and IT solution) needs to have a PR team because:-
1) exposure purposes - the company needs specific PR staff to issue proper media releases and ensure proper media coverage of the company's activities, brochures, leaftlets, newsletter of the company, etc.
2) crisis management - the company needs a proper crisis team to prepare themselves on any issues or crisis arise.
3) event management - includes budgeting, event plan, strategic planning, compaigns, etc.

Since this company has no specific PR team, during my presentation I actually arise the issue and they take it positively. =) For other readers, please do share with me your thoughts on this. Thanks!

Will update more soon...

Hi

Yeah you are actually right! I think that not only companies that deal with direct clients need to have a PR dept, but every company should. Especially nowadays, media waits for opportunity to write about companies and what they do.

So a good PR team, dept is crucial for an organisation. They are usually the ones who talk for the organisation for any kind of issues, events and they are those who have the expertise and strategies to deal with different situations.
However, there are many companies whereby the CEO or the manager acts as the spokesperson. But it would be best in my opinion to have someone from a PR perspective to talk on behalf of a company or to handle issues regarding the media, etc..

Hi Sabrina,
That is very much agreed! PR team does not only speak for the company, but they're the ones who keep the company in stability in terms of exposure and good image. On the part on CEO or manager being the spokesperson, I agree with you on that but don't deny that PR people are also the ones who prepared the speech, interview questions and such, so it's basically the same thing. PR is very very crucial in so many ways. ;)

hey there, of course it is important to have PR department in the company. like you said, this is the group of think tank that would have great network with the media to get access to the mass for recent updates and pr people are the ones assisting clients in crisis management and solving problems for them.

plus, if pr department isnt important, wht are we studying pr still? :)
when issues, crises, or even some advertising a new product or promotion take place, we, the PR people are the group of mind hijackers that gives ideas on how to tackle the markets and beat the other competitors.

i do know that some companies do not have pr departments especially those small business companies. they do not need the PRs as they are just doing their own business and will not engage any issues with the current economic situations. i hope you get me. but, when comes to advertising a promotion or when they need to have some events or so, they might need the PRs too, and thats where they will pay to the PR agency to work for them.

im glad that u have finished your internship. mine will soon be over, this coming friday.
