Hi everyone,

I've been doing my work experience with NRC Communications. I'm just about half-way through and I've learnt so much already.

What I've enjoyed the most so far is getting the chance to write media releases. I still find it quite nerve-racking as this is the "real thing"... media will actually read it. On the other hand, my supervisors have been so supportive and helpful, and it's just made the experience so much better!

I've also been really busy with mail-outs. I've learnt with this particular industry that mail-outs are really important in order to increase word-of-mouth and general awareness about a film. Further, knowing the target market of a film is really important as well. There's no point sending out in-season passes to people who won't appreciate them and go see the film.

Leading on from that... I've learnt just how much control (or lack of) we have over what we do. We can only do so much in spreading the word through media and the local community... but ultimately, especially with something like films, it really is up to the individual to form their own opinion and you can only hope they will enjoy it and therefore spread the word throughout their friends and family.

Signing off for now...
