Job offer!

Hello everyone,

I am thoroughly enjoying my time at the Department of Education and Training, believe it or not there is so much going on at this department. We have a news story (positive and negative) every day!

I have recently been offered a temporary job as an event co-ordinator for one of their events coming up. It was for the Independant schools induction. It would have been great to do as there was the minister and mayor attending with principals and registras from across the state, as well as the guest speakers from over east and the UK who needed to be organised. Unfortunately I can't take the positioin as I can only allow two days a week with uni studies as well. Hopefully the department will let me help them along the way during my two days!

I have been working on may different parts of the Education campaigns, one in particular is the Shenton College positive publicity campaign. This has involved much of my time and there are so many different media releases involved. This is a little challenging as from my studies I feel that another mediumshould be used as well, e.g. radio. I have spoken to the principal and I think he would be great on a little radio show. Is anybody else feeling they could do more? I haven't dais anything as they are restriced by budgets at the moment.

Another way that the budget has been restricting is in printing and design costs. I am also working on making pamphlets for regional schools in WA and there is so much that we could do with it, but the budget has restricted the campaign so much. Has anybody else felt this? I guess not as many of you are in private companies and not government departments. So I have done much of the work myself and just got the design people to put the images and text into place so that it took them the smallest amount of time possible. Don't get me wrong, this is great experience on my behalf, but the schools are missing out because it is not being done by design professionals.

There is so much going on in the department at the moment, it is amazing, I never thought that they would have so much media to deal with. And now that it is school holidays there is so much more going on because they are trying to get everything ready for the start of fourth term.

Hope you are all enjoying you placements!
Bec
