Walking Horse Music

This month I started my internship at small independent record and publicity label called Walking Horse Music. It is the perfect extension to the PR work I did for dot dot dash (see http://pr393reflectiveblog2.blogspot.com/search/label/Bree%20Andersen) as my previously established contacts are also media contacts for this organisation. When emailing these publications I already have a relationship with them, therefore I am able to receive a response quite quickly. As I have had experience as to how to approach new media contacts, it has made the completing my tasks all that less daunting. I thought to myself during the first week, "Wow if I haven't done the PR for dot dot dash, I would have no idea what to do with myself right now!".

The benefits of working for a small organisation (there are generally 3 other people in the office on the days I come in), is that they need my help and will utilize it to its full potential. I had a joke with my mentor saying "I can't believe you are making me coffee, shouldn't it be the other way around?" and his reply "There are much more important things we can have you doing".

So far my tasks have included, taking control of Walking Horse's social networking sites (twitter, facebook, myspace), following up media to see if they received promo CDs/singles/EPs, producing and editing press releases. Matt (my mentor) has also hinted that I may be able to organise the industry christmas party, since he heard great things about the dot dot dash launch party.

Note to self: In Public Relations, your reputation will always precede you. Therefore always do the best job you can...
