Working at Limkokwing University

Hello everyone!

My name is Natasha and I am a student at Limkokwing University in Malaysia. I recently started working at Limkokwing in the PR department.

So far so good! I've been rather busy I must say. I didn't know that PR was such an enjoyable occupation! It really is different from learning how to write a press release and articles to actually doing it. I find that the practical side of things have been a lot more fun than theory!

My job is to write articles on events that happen within the university as well as writing press releases and calling the media. I've also found myself doing a bit of everything else in between.

The past few weeks have been ratehr busy! We've had a cultural event held by the University's Indian club and that was fun! Calling the media to get them to come to the event was a bit of a task. Not everyone is polite. But I guess that's how it goes.

Other than that I've written a bunch of articles. One was on the Bosnian Ambassadors visit to the university, as well as talks on drugs and HIV/Aids. Very informative!

All in all I'm really enjoying myself. Will keep y'all posted on the happenings and goings on and what goes on behind the scenes!

See yah!

Hi, Natasha

I am happy that you are enjoying your internship.

It is true that writing press release for our studies and writing one for a real organisation is different. More effort and precautionary measures have to be taken to avoid errors as we are dealing with real journalists.

Doing a bit of everything else in between does help the organisation to work faster as a helping hand is always needed. This is my point of view as at PILS, the NGO where I’m working, I find out that a helping hand in doing a bit of everything in between has helped them to do a work in lesser time.
I have dealt a lot with media for the creation of media contact list and invitation of press conference. I agree with you as it was challenging and a lot of work.

Indeed, these journalists are not always polite but we must understand them as they have a lot of deadlines coming and are in a bad mood. But nevertheless, we need to remain polite at all cost. That is the advice I can tell you as I had the same experience as you.

Hope you continue to enjoy your internship.

Regards,
Joyce
