If you've ever found computers frustrating, you don't know the least of it.
Every hour, minute and second of everyday we search the net for information. Every assignment signifies another plea for the internet to put out.
Safe to say, i've taken my old pal the internet, and the websites out there for granted.
Maybe it's not the internet that beckons my sudden push for respect, but the foundations upon which it is based.
I've been at my placement at Colosoul for a while now, lapping up the time doing some PR work, making obvious use of the net.
Up until now i didn't think much of websites and how much effort goes into their maintanence. That is, until i was made responsible for heading the websites current and interim future developments.
I now have the utmost respect for the people who take care of websites. I took on the task unaware of just how much goes on to keep a website going on a week to week, month to month basis.
The highlight of my first moments with access to the websites modifications facilities were when I managed to erase the majority of the information on the front page, followed by making a feeble attempt at putting it all back. Fortunately i've taken the reins since then and it's been smooth sailing ever since.
It's kind of an obscure reference, but It's a feeling not unlike Newman's character from Seinfeld of sudden, albeit, useless power to control information that's being fed into the mainstream.

I completely understand where you are coming from. I was also given the task of monitoring the website at my placement. For some reason they do not make the software user friendly.
However, I found that once I got my head around the software it wasn't too bad. It never does what you want it to do but I can always find a way around that.
Don't worry about erasing majority of the information on the front page, my manager erased half the company's website by accident.
The best thing about the internet is once is out there there is always a way to get it back. You just have to know the right people.
For some reason the website, which is a vital tool to effective marketing and day to day business practices, management views as a medioca task and assigns work experience students sole responsibility?
Bit of a risk don't you think?
Or are we just very efficient?
Hi Conrad,
I too have spent a lot of my prac working of the website.
I found tables the trickiest to get my head around – every time I would reformat a table to meet the style guide the surrounding text would turn schizophrenic! I think it’s good that by immersing ourselves in the online sphere we are developing greater respect and understanding of the work that goes into creating and maintaining the webpages we view on a daily basis.
I think the nature of websites and content management systems leads to online information frequently being lost and temporarily erased. I found it useful to draft all the text (without formatting) in a Word document before putting it into the web system. That way there is an electronic back-up of the content that can easily be re-used.
I was just so grateful the content didn’t need to be input using HTML language!
Good luck with your remaining time at Colosoul and remember that we’re guaranteed to make mistakes (we’re in the workplace to learn and gain experience) and they help us to improve for the future.
