Importance of Research
When I was introduced to the different projects, I did not know any of the company or the subject I would have to tackle. It is where I learned the importance of research and being prepare to show that you know what you are talking about. Especially when you go for an interview with the client to know more about his company, I had to show a certain level of knowledge about what he is talking about. I noticed that showing that you know what he is talking about and you know the historical background of his company, when he talks about it and let go what you know, brought a pleasant satisfaction in the client. It showed that I have made research and came prepared to the interview. It also shows that his interest is being taken care of, that the final will not be just a product, without any knowledge of the core values of his company and what he wanted.
• How to do research
o Ask for past articles or project the company has been working on for the client.
o Helps in the preparation of the press document
o Leaves a good impression upon the client.

Hi there,
Good to know that you feel the satisfaction your clients feel when you show them you know what you are talking about.
I totally agree with you. In everything we do, we must have research. Most importantly if it has to do with the clients.
Doing research shows that we have the initiative to do that particular event and that it makes the client feels important as well as showing them that we as hired pr practitioners knows what we are doing.
Cheers,
Sharon
Research is a huge part of PR. A lot of the tasks I did at Diabetes WA require me to do some research.
I had to research:
- politicians with an interest in health to contact
- stats about diabetes for media releases i wrote
-stats about health in the workplace
- prices for promotional items
- potential advertisers for dialog the DWA magazine.
and the list goes on.
I disagree with the above comment, research doesn't show initiative, it is REQUIRED. I think it's naive to expect results without the evidence or some research to support it.
I don't mean to defend or discredit what you have said Sharon but I have just realised that post all the assignments of uni and n the real world, research will never stop being important.
