I began my placement a Colosoul Magazine a little while ago along with several other PR students. I'll admit this had me a little worried that with so many people around there wouldn't be enough for me to do and therefore nothing for me to write about in my blogs.
Luckily I was assigned the (not so easy) task of organising a local music event called Go Local. I have been steadily trying to organise this event for months now with a deadline of November 21.
It was all coming along swell until I realised that we still didn't actually have a headliner for the event. This sent me into a mild state of panic as anyone who has ever been to a concert or festival would know that you generally need a big act to pull in the crowds.
The reason I think I am finding it particularly hard to find a headliner is that I have restrictions. As Go Local is about promoting local music I have to make sure that any act I get is from Perth. It makes it difficult because there are not exactly and endless suply of widly successful Perth bands who will guaruntee an audience and who are also available.
Don't get me wrong, we have plenty of fantastic musicians in this city, it's just to pull a crowd I need someone big and it turns out they are all busy.
After a quick, and very daunting, chat with the editor of the magazine, it was decided that the best thing to do would be to postpone the event until we could organise something that will be a big success.
The challenge now is convincing someone who has left the Perth nest to come back and help a girl out!
