EVENT MANAGEMENT IS NOT AN EASY TASK

Hi! Guys

This is my very first post , as i have been very busy with this event that we were organizing at work. The event has passed and it was a success.I am an intern with an NGO in Botswana called Skillshare International.Skillshare International works to reduce poverty , injustice and inequality and to further economic and social development in partnership with people and communities throughout the world. they do this by sharing and developing skills and ideas , facilitating organizational and social change and building organizational issues.

We have been engaged in this project called the
Botswana Rural Communities Livelihoods Project which aims to improve the capacity of our partner organisations in their work with marginalised Basarwa San households in Western and North Western Botswana. We now needed to raise funds for the Basarwa San working with our partner TXY (a local NGO) to fence off land that the local government recently granted to the San community. This land will provide a legacy of employment, income generation opportunities and sustainable food security for them.

So we decided to organize a talent show themed " Talents from the Kalahari" as one of the fundraising strategies. My friends i tell you this was not an easy job for me as the oganization is short staffed.Infact the organization that am with did not have a Public Relations department before. So as soon as i started with them i was asked what is it that we do in PR. After telling them i was given this task to be the event orginizer.

First of all i had to organize what would be happening at the event. this was very hard because i had not met the Basarwa ( the people who were to perform at the talent show). They stay about 500 km from the capital city where i am, so even trying to call them was very hard.Booking was another one for me. i had to make bookings and follow-up calls almost everyday and and the media was always calling urging me to advertise with them and some for interview sessions. One of the moments i wont forget about organizing this event was when i almost got on the wrong side of the law at the American Embassy when i went to invite the Ambassador.

Guys a lot happened , unfortunately i cannot list the all, but all in all the event was a success.
