Sponsorship in Public Relations

My company The Voice have  done a lot of sponsorship in and around Botswana for the past few years. It sponsors people especially by involving editorial department who publish their issues and  pr practitioners  include them in feature articles.
The P.R department came up with an idea called "The Voice Will Fix it" were it work with the journalistas to fix the problem that the people/public have.
An example of such feature article is of Didi on the Real Enchalada dated pg FRiday 7,August 09 and Shahnaz at Vic Falls.
What the pr department does is  they sponsor one person in one year and do them whatever they are looking for.If its a holiday they provide hotel, air ticket, food, luxury for free.
In that way they are trying to build the image/reputation of their company, a good relationship with their public.
All these people have one thing in common,"dreams" and the Voice p.r departmnent fix it to them, either stress, bad relationships, adventure.
They organise events in which a person had time to meet or go to their dream land.

Goodday Amogelang....

I think this is something we should have been exposed fully into because in all projects we did at school we came through them but different because there it was only theory hence assumptions because they haven’t been tested. The corporation I was working for had CSR projects running and other kinds of sponsorships as well, all these came to me through the office but the involvement was a bit shallow. I hope at your company you are involved in a more certifying manner.

However no matter how much we are involved in the projects we still harness a lot because seeing is believing and a quicker way to learn unlike in class where we are just being told things. I have now learnt a lot myself not only in the field of PR but other things that makes the company live and kicking; I guess you are doing the same as well.

Bye for now and keep up with the good work.

Good day people....
I agree with you all sponsorship is really important in PR,and I'm happy you guys have been exposed to it during your internship period.

I want to also remind you like Kim Harrison said sponsorship are often confused with donations. He said donation is a gift of product or cash with little or no expected return.sponsorship is a purchase of the right to associate the sponsor's name, products or services with the sponsored organization services, product or activity in return for negotiated benefit.Like most of the organization sponsor students and in return they will expect the student to be their full time employee.

I agree with you sponsorship build the image/reputation of the organization, especially to the public.the same way will do to the voice company.

Good luck guys and keep on learning more...

hi guys
Thanks for the comment
Hope you all enjoyed your intenship with the company you are working with.
For example my company do a lot of sponsorship by giving their clients a holiday outings,in order to have something in return,to have more readers.By doing a lot of sponsorship they expect a lot of people to start buying their newspaper as well as doing something in return
All the best in your working environment
Cheers

goodday

esther i should say sponsorship is one of the common things public relations would do to put the image of the organisation in a good stead, make itself well known.

The program that the voice has implememnted is quet a good way, looking at the fact that the voice newspaper is one of the best newspapers in botswana.i gues you have learnt a lot from the voice and not only that you have gave them your ideas.
