Second Entry- Internship Tourism WA

Hi Everyone,

This is my second entry. Currently, I have completed seven days of my internship and I am loving every minute of it. Since I have been at Tourism WA the launch of the 'Extraordinary Taxi Ride Journey,' has been launched and is currently taking place. During my time I have been given a variety of work and each time the work load get's more challenging when I prove to my colleagues I am capable of the responsibility.

On a day to day basis I am responsible for collecting all media requests and adding them to a database. This not only keeps the PR department organised but keeps the department efficient and aware of the previous requests to Tourism info in WA, so if similar media inquiries come up the info has been stored. Although this was not a thrilling task, it was eye-opening to see which media publications request destination and tourism info from Tourism WA. Also freelance journalist's request editorial info and in return are sometimes given accommodation etc as a way of assisting the mutual relationship between journalist and PR team and this was a good way to learn how the media system operates.

During my days interning I also got to experience a more exciting aspect of PR at 'Extraordinary Taxi Ride' launch. I had to be there at 5am to assist the PR team in a live crossing with Sunrise. The passengers of the 'taxi ride,' had to be prepared to be interviewed and given sample questions of what may be asked. There was also a live broadcasting with 6PR and Nova and it was such a valuable experience to see how important the PR role is in preparing and liaising with the media. My job for the day was to assist in any way and take photographs of the event. I had to hand out promotional give-aways which was fun. Overall it was an amazing experience and very necessary to learn how things work when dealing with the media.

Even though, I may not have the most exciting tasks, each day I get more experience and learn something new as each task is a stepping stone towards building on my PR skills and knowledge.
Hope everyone is enjoying their placements also...

Ann-Marie :)
