An awesome experience

I believe PR is not all about theory but about the doing part. You can have all the theory but if you are not able to apply it, its useless. I now begin to realize the significance of internship for Public Relations. I'm not saying the theory part is bad but it also needs the experience to make it complete. When you have learnt the theory you are half way through but need another half to be complete.

Due to learning and studying theory I was used to forming my imaginary companies and digits while making budget or planning for an event. Then come an internship I was now exposed to real life situations. I have to do the exact budget which was not easy at first but because practice makes perfect Im learning and enjoying.

Then comes the media update list. It was difficult at first but I had to be patient and willing to learn. The difficulties that I faced were language barrier. Some did not understand English while some did not understand my accent. For the people who did not understand English I ask one of my colleagues to speak to them on my behalf. I also faced voice projection, Im this Janet who speaks so slowly and softly neither did I know that it was a disadvantage. When calling media people I have to increase my voice and try not to be soft.

Be patient and responsible for everything when you are a Public Relations practitioner. Some people will be harsh when talking to you. Try not t respond to them the way you feel or want. When hurt try to remain calm and do not respond them harshly too. There are challenges in Public Relations which need to be tackled peacefully. It was also tiring, media in Malaysia is too much.

I'm now getting used to everything even working. This is what I call an awesome experience.....

Hey,I bet you are having an awesome experience gal.

Well you are right that you need to be patient especially because whats more important in PR is maintaining a good image for both your consultancy and your clients so you have to put up with everything that comes your way, like you said despite all the hard word and difficulties every now and then it trully is an awesome experience.
