I was involved in making a media coverage report for a hospitality client. So needless to say, spent some time monitoring the media in the IMM division (Indian media Monitoring) of Perfect Relations Hyderabad. So let me share with you all a step by step process of media monitoring.
1) Browse through the different sources of media (newspaper, magazines, radio, television and even websites) and mark the client.
2) Scan the clip in case of publications.
3)The scanned clip is then measured for its dimensions (area in Sq.Cms)
4) Once the clip is measured, it is then copied to a ftp client called 'pr-prism.com' for online view.
5) The copied clip from pr-prism is then uploaded to a media monitoring portal called 'immservcies.net' where the clip is categoried with details of headline, publication, date, page number and client name.
6) Once this process is done, the clip is seen in the database of Perfect Relations accessible to all clients, media and staff through 'perfectrelationsconnect.com'.
So each day, this process happens and the database is updated. I monitored the Ista Hotel coverage for two days and had great fun doing it. The media coverage report that is generated after this process of media monitoring is complete is an important element in demonstrating the ROI to clients.
I am wondering how is the media monitoring process done in other countries like Australia? Your comments regarding the same is highly appreciated.
